The community was named for George Murray, a mining prospector. Murray was one of several boisterous mining camps that became active in the late 1880s in Northern Idaho. Mines operated in the area from the 1880s to the 1950s. A Northern Pacific railroad line served the community for two years during the 1910s. A post office was established at Murray in 1884, and remained in operation until 1959. Our community is a special place with a special history! Where once famous lawman Wyatt Earp roamed, drank, gambled, and even ran his own White Elephant Saloon. Where the men, who helped shape our great nation had invested time and money to reap the rewards of the gold rush days.
Tickets are available at The Bedroom Goldmine bar and restaurant and The Spragpole bar and restaurant in the town of Murray. Tickets are $20 each or 6 tickets for $100! This years prize is quite special. Two guns for the price of one! A side by side double barrel 12 gauge stage coach shot gun and a 45 long Colt peace maker! These are new unfired reproductions. Once you buy your ticket you don't need to be present to win, and with only 800 tickets available the odds are awesome. All proceeds go to the Molly B'Damn corporation for the betterment of the town.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us keep our community looking and operating at its best. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you. We are always looking for assistance with cemetery maintenance, city park maintenance, and help with our community events such as Molly days, annual poker runs, car/bike shows, concerts in the park, and many other local needs and events. Anyone who is in the trades and willing to help with their time and or their expertise is also greatly appreciated. Contact the Spragpole or Bedroom Goldmine for details.
